saying goodbye to mazzy

we had to say goodbye to our dear mazzy last week. she was with us for 16 years. rescued from a dumpster after a bad storm...all her little siblings had drowned except for her. she fit in the palm of our hand when we first brought her home. chris and i had just moved into our first apartment together. she was our little baby:) she was there for every huge event in our lives. our wedding, buying our first home, bringing our 2 babies home, birthday parties, graduations, holidays, hurricanes, blizzards... 9 different houses in 4 states, plane trips, cross country car rides, hotel stays...

she was always there. she was fine one week and then sick with crummy cancer the next. we know she had a happy and long life and i truly believe she is in cat heaven... flying free. it will just take some time to get used to her not being around. not hearing her purrs. not seeing herr cute little personality. i wanted to share some of my favorite photos of her...mostly old ones. going through a bunch of our old photos was fun...seeing the boys so little, all our different homes. i wanted to find a few pics of mazzy with the boys...but i couldn't get into the hard drive where they are stored. (so much easier when you just printed your photos) henry took it especially hard. he wanted everyone to know that she was the best cat ever and that he'll miss playing checkers with her in the closet. how sweet. we sure loved you mazzy. thank you for spending your life with us!! xoxo

puppy lou and the saturday update

well, where did that week go!? happy, happy friday you guys!! for starters...the shop update is still on for tomorrow. know i mentioned it quickly the other day...but here are the details!

my baby lou was sick. again! it's the saddest little thing when a puppy is sick. like a baby totally. poor little guy. this time it was his stomach. he just wanted to be held. i felt so bad for him...but was also losing my mind with the upset tummy cleanup. we'll leave it at that. you know...in case you are eating. so gross. thankfully all the meds kicked in today and he's on the mend. it is so sunny and beautiful here today...he was pretty excited to go sit in the sun:) well...see ya'll tomorrow! thanks for poppin by! xox...jenn

vintage tuesday...giveaway!

i love old valentines. their darling graphics and kitschy little sayings. i think it's so sweet when they have the original writing on them...but what a treat when you can find them blank. hidden away for all those years...never given to a sweetheart. here's a fun little project to display these vintage gems. you just need a few items to make your very own valentine banner. and guess what? there's a giveaway for you too! noodle and lou vintage hearts you all so much! read on...

all you need is some twine or fun trim,
nails. vintage valentines,
clips and papers
to decorate your clips. (you could
also use little red paper clips,
tiny clothespins, etc)

i had these ugly plastic clips, so
i just cut some old bingo cards to
size and glued them right on to the
fronts. you could further embellish
with a little ribbon and button too!

hang your trim up with nails...
my trim had wire in it so i just
simply wrapped the ends right
around the nail to secure.
you could also just tie a little
knot around the nail.
these little banners look so
great over a bed or book shelf:)

now just clip your valentines up and
pat yourself on the back! you just
made the cutest valentine banner
around! and as a special treat for
you my lovely readers...

this one can be one of yours!

happy friday everyone!
so excited to be feeling a bit better and
for a 3 day weekend ahead of us!

sharing a few pics of my buddy with you guys:) louie never leaves my side (unless he is following chris around) and is such a sweet little pal. faithfully waiting in the car line every day with me. hanging out in the car..taking instagram pictures:) so happy when he sees the boys heading towards the car. and 2 different schools equals twice as much excitement:)

the rest of his time is spent soaking up bits of sunshine when it's not too cold. (he will only wear a sweater if we are on a walk! silly willy) and digging for badgers. yes, of course there are no badgers...but we won't tell louie that.

yep...just the valentine girl and the halloween painting (love her expression!! makes me giggle). if you are looking for valentine houses...not to fret! i'm working on an update for next week and there will be some there. i've been under the weather this week and just haven't been productive in the studio. check back here for update times...i'll announce in the next couple days.

hello there! it's the first vintage tuesday of 2012 and i'm so happy you are here. the new year has me itching to purge and clean and organize...how about you? for me...life is just so much easier and happier when everything has it's place. it doesn't necessarily mean things are always actually in their place....but you get what i mean:)

a great way to organize your home is by repurposing your flea market / thrift shop / vintage finds. enjoy these vintage picks from etsy...

i adore using old farm rake heads for
jewelry storage! (my photo...)
organize all those necklaces and have
them right within reach...awesome.

use darling old metal baskets like
this one for storing blocks and toys
in your child's room. they look so cute
lined up on a book shelf.

vintage boxes like this one are pretty
easy to find and make great storage for
everything from bills and notes to art
supplies for the kiddos...

old wire crates...i can't have enough
of them!!! i use them everywhere...but
particularly ones like this in my closet to
contain scarves, bags and hats...etc.
they are perfect because you can SEE
what's inside...but a zillion times cuter
than plastic bins. see this one here.

i use old metal buckets for storing magazines
and towels in a fresh, "industrial chic" way.
this one is so darling with that label. so
good for a nursery or child's bathroom.

use antique drink crates, like these ,
in the kitchen to store...well...drinks!
your water bottles or soda cans/bottles
stay nice and tidy. perfect for parties
too. you can also hang them on a
wall for clever book shelves and
knick knack storage. (the dividers
can usually pop right out)

love this old divider box to use in the
studio or office. store stickers, envelopes,
stamps, bills, cards...all happily organized
and easy to find in their own little slot.

vintage hangers like this one make the best
display pieces! organize all those little piles
laying around...clip important papers,
business cards, favorite photos, the kids'
doodles... stylish and super easy to change
out.

and my final pick for getting organized...
more baskets! this time round ones.
old wire ones are my faves...like this one.
hang them in groups on your wall...
(bottom side to the wall). cutest
storage and display for stuffed animals,
and toys.

it's a new year!

happy 2012 everyone!! we had the most delightful and refreshing break! my parents were here for christmas... (they just left yesterday...we miss them!) and the boys just went back to school today. we are slowly getting back into "regular" life. that alarm clock was a sorry sound this morning...let me tell you! our break was full of sleeping in and eating out and playing games and visiting the zoo and shopping and just hanging out. 100% fabulous in every way! so here are some peeks of the last couple weeks....

so fun...and so good to spend time with my parents aka mia and pappy! i sure hope each and every one of you had a blessed holiday and that you are off to a happy start for 2012. i'm thinking it's gonna be a good one! lots of new adventures in the horizon. i'm glad y'all are along for the ride! see you soon! xox...jenn

christmas cheer

it's finally starting to look like christmas around here! we went out saturday and bought our trees. i spent the whole day yesterday decorating them and the house. i'll take some photos this week...it's rainy and cloudy here and hard to get some good ones. as happy (and thankful!) as i was to be busy with work this season, i was not feeling the christmas cheer. not a stitch of decorations in my own house, no time to do my shopping...laundry was piling up... house was dirty. i was going a little cuckoo. like i said...i am beyond thankful for my job and for my awesome supporters...i'm just being honest:) it was hard to balance it all. now that i have some trees up and my favorite christmas decorations around me and the laundry has been almost caught up on...i'm feeling a little more human:)

the boys finished up school last friday...yahoooo for christmas break! we are off to a movie in just a bit and i am thankful for this time with my family! hope you are all enjoying a peaceful and joyful moment too! xox...jenn

that's me. the tired elf. you would not believe my office/studio if you saw it. it looks like an episode of hoarders times three. wowza. but it's all good:) i'm thankful to be busy!! to have my little job! absolutely. just tired and ready to get off the christmas roller coaster:) ready to close up the noodle and lou factory soon and take a break with the family. but it's not quite time for that...

advent calendar project

happy december 1st! the countdown to christmas is officially on! we usually bring out the little santa advent calendar every year and each day, one of the boys, puts santa in the correct day's pocket. over the past 11 years, santa has taken a bit of a beating. (no, i want to put santa in the pocket! nooo, i do!) time for santa to retire. (i'm making the little santa into an ornament for the tree, so we can always remember his loyal service). i wanted something new and fun this year. something that they both could benefit from. though somehow i'm pretty sure they will find something to fight about anyways...:):)

here's what i came up with... and guess what? you can do it too! super easy and you can add all sorts of your own style to this project!

i started with simple little muslin bags,
you can find them on etsy or at your
local craft stores...

next, i used all sorts of different
types and sizes of numbers from
my vintage collection. you could
also paint or stencil numbers,
use stickers, magazine cutouts...etc

i then attached to numbers, 1 - 24,
just using glue dots. (i told you this
was EASY. i like easy.)
you could also sew them on, staple
them with a bit of ribbon...etc!

i then filled up the bags with tiny treats...
1 for each of them, each day...
candy, coins, ornaments, toys,
stickers...
henry loves those little squinkies.
they crack me up. he lines them up
on his shelf in his room:)

next, just use your favorite garland or
even twine, and tie the bags on!
i've had this sparkly white
pom pom garland for awhile and i think
this is the perfect use for it!

ta da! i adore the simple look and the boys
will be so excited when they get home from school
and see it...

black friday...cyber monday...they are all the same to me! so, the noodle and lou 20% off sale will last through today! hooray, hooray! that goes for everything in my etsy shop. AND the vintage shop too. nothing new vintage wise...just haven't had time...but maybe there was something you've had your eye on. still use the BLACKFRIDAY20 coupon code at checkout. 20% will magically come off your invoice:) ta daaaa! i even have a few new things that are headed to the shop right after i post this. and yes...you can get 20% off these too. fun, right!? here's what's new...

i'll leave you with a photo of 5 month old mr. louie. or maybe i should call him mr. chewy. he swallowed a SOCK over the weekend and had to be rushed to the animal hospital. thank you God, they were able to get him to throw it up. i have no idea how this tiny 8 lb. dog can get a sock up or down his throat. but he did. and i'm so thankful he didn't choke or need surgery. my crazy little baby is constantly trying to shove things down his throat. please grow out of this phase quickly louie. oy vey. xoxo...jenn

we had a lovely thanksgiving. we had a huge feast of food and it was just the 4 of us. we all agreed that we have much to be thankful for! in between chris' football games, i keep seeing commercials for black friday sales. stores opening at midnight tonight! 4 am! ugh. all i can say is this... don't forget about your small independent shops, your local neighborhood artists and your favorite on-line handmade treats! mix it up. don't just do one stop shopping at your huge super store. support handmade and you know you are giving a truly unique gift! it's true!!

muffin men and flower girls

okay my friends... 4 more ornaments are headed to the shop in just a bit here. (9:30 pm EST again!) here is a peek for you! first up is something new... the muffin men. where do i come up with these silly names? my silly head! they are made in little chocolate molds and hang from twine. i think they are so cute and they remind me of a little loaf pan. i told you i'm silly! next up are the last 2 flower girls. i may be acquiring some more tin pieces and could make more for after thanskgiving...but not sure!

spookytime jingles

time for another spookytime jingles update! i don't want to scare you or anything...but christmas is in 43 days. have you picked yourself up off the floor yet? so hard to believe. it just sneaks right up on ya, doesn't it? i'm working on tons of christmas stuff. lots. i'll start having christmas updates next week. making christmas villages, snowmen, sculptures, ornaments and paintings. hooray!

sweet little ornaments with hand sculpted/painted faces on vintage tin light reflectors. tattered scraps of polka dot fabric were used for the hangers. i love the way they turned out! hope you love them too:)

so happy it's already wednesday. just get through today and the weekend is almost here! yahooo! hope you enjoyed my rachel ashwell post yesterday. i just loved the prairie and was so excited to share pictures with you guys!

now on to today's bits and pieces...

on my way to the ol' etsy shop to list a few things. of course i always show you here first...so here ya go...

and a handful (10 to be exact) of little clay star
ornaments/gift toppers. each have a different bit
of vintage text and lots of red glitter.

in other news...i do make quite a few things
that you guys don't always see. special orders
and such. thought i'd share a couple peeks at
some recent ones. like this sweet little christmas

vintage tuesday, visiting rachel ashwell's 'the prairie'

while we were in round top for the fall shows, we stopped by the prairie...rachel ashwell's breathtaking new bed & breakfast. this was a huge highlight of our trip because we adore rachel ashwell. absolutely adore. and have for years and years! my mom has all her books and even used to tape her old tv show back in the day. anybody remember that? it was sooo good! rachel is such an inspiration. we love her for her style, her shabby chic empire, her love of chippy vintage furniture, her soft white sheets and sweet floral fabrics ...and now we love her for coming to texas! she has truly carved out a little slice of heaven right there in round top. visit the prairie website here for more photos and info on the rooms/houses and rates.

there is even a shabby chic couture shop on site.
uhhh...swoon! and look who is on the front
step to greet us...her dog! the little shop is
gorgeous. chock full of shabby chic goodness.
my mom and i bought some t-shirts. we were
pinching ourselves that we were here!

the sweet girl working at the shop told us we could
look around and walk over to the common area.
there was no one around (we wouldn't want to
bother any of the guests staying there), so we took
a peek around. it is to die for you guys.
SO peaceful and pretty and ...so shabby chic,
but texas style! enjoy the rest of the pictures and
if you are planning a trip to central texas...
the prairie is where you want to stay! we love

hello sunday...and hello to you! the flu has been lingering at our house and i am glad to see it leaving. so, how have YOU been? we managed to get out and do some trick or treating. jake was on the fence about dressing up, but finally threw some cowboy clothes on (and collected a bag full of candy)...which is why i didn't get many pics of him. henry was a mad scientist. with a battle ax of course. he was quite convincing...loved it! he is trying to act really mean in the photos...are you scared? p.s. that is what my hair looks like in the morning.

part 3...festival hill

welcome to part 3 of our round top/warrenton trip! i knew, while we were in round top, that we needed to visit festival hill. a magical place housing the festival hill institute... a european styled music institute... and 210 acres of "major performance facilities, historic houses, extensive gardens, parks and nature preserves." all i can say is wow. what a beautiful place. we didn't see another soul while we were there...it was so quiet and ominous...did i already say magical? it really was. here are some peeks of our exploring...

this is the mother load y'all!! i can't tell you the excitement i had pulling up to this show. first of all, it's HUGE. and there are amazing bits of goodies peeking out of these big white tents and i don't know... i just had to pinch myself. i love, love, loved it. if you love vintage. if you love antiques. if you love unique, one of a kind treasures...row after row of them... you absolutely must visit this show sometime. the spring show is april 3-7...i'm just sayin'...

and hello...
magnolia pearl. i was SO excited to see their booth
in person. over the top gorgeous. ruffles for
miles. it's like stepping into a wonderland.

so good.

the large magnolia flower made from old
newspapers was awfully special too.
it was all so stunning.

we saw some great vintage halloween, which i
always enjoy looking at.

and tons of the most unusual &
beautiful santos and religious icons...
my mom was in heaven and wanted
them all!

and my favorites...the booths filled with
rusty galvanized metal and chippy
furniture pieces and did i mention the
architectural salvage? yummmm.

it was brutally HOT again...but we were still
smiling!

we were smiling even bigger after our fab brisket
sandwiches for lunch. um. awesome. ali is a
vegetarian and had to go off looking for an alternate
lunch. i felt bad for her until i saw her huge
burrito thing with roasted veggies. double awesome.

there we are...refueled with sweet tea and
lunch:) and we set off to shop the rest of the tents.

some of the things we purchased...locker baskets, grain linens, a portugese marionette puppet (WHY didn't i get a pic. of that before my mom took it home?) aprons, vintage christmas ornaments and more! really, we saw the most amazing things. thank you marburger farm! we can't wait until we can visit you again!!!

round top, warrenton trip...part 1

finally, some photos from our trip! it was such a great time...full of laughter and fun! and DUST and HEAT. holy momma. it was hot. i mean really, really hot. but we hung in there and got dirty and sweaty all in the name of antiquing! we had about a 4 hour trip and when we got to the tiny little round top road, we could barely wait for what was at the end. the prettiest little town. population 90. round top, texas y'all! and right beyond that...sweet little warrenton where zapp hall was waiting for us!

just so happy to be there and trying to take it all
in...i don't think i bought a thing that 1st day.
and i forgot to take very many pictures...

it was beautiful and it was delightful to meet
theresa in person...so sweet and talented.

always love to find letters and numbers...don't you?
so, despite the heat and overwhelming excitement...we made it
through our 1st day of travel and shopping. time to eat.
we headed off to fayetteville to joe's place.

good ol' southern home cookin'!
so delicious. every bite was an absolute treat.
and even though they were packed and super
busy...we got a table within 30 mins and the
service was awesome.

best chicken fried steak and green beans...

and super delicious bread pudding. ohmygosh. my mouth
is watering thinking about it. incredible. so good that
we went back the next night! i'm not even kidding.
so, with way full bellies and 6 lbs of dust in our shoes...
we drove the hour to our hotel. it was lots o' driving. but
we didn't care! because the next day was marburger!!!
and i did a better job at snapping some photos for you:)

14 years yesterday

yesterday was our 14th wedding anniversary! things have been pretty hectic since my mom, sister and i returned from our antiquing trip (loads of pictures coming soon!!)....but we still made some time to celebrate yesterday. just dinner at home with the kids (using the fancy glasses of course!), and a walk down memory lane with our wedding albums. simple and sweet! then, right before bed, henry asked if he could draw for a few minutes. i'm so glad i let him because this is what he brought over to us a few moments later...

hands down, the best anniversary present we have ever...or will ever receive. it brought tears to my eyes!!!! the stinkin' message is SO darling. and the fact that he calls chris his "man" is the cutest thing i've ever seen. i'm in polka dots...so smart. and chris has more hair than he did 10 years ago! we got a good laugh out of that one:):)

so, just had to share that with you! 14 sure is a good number!! xox...jenn

happy birthday to my sweet mom!
today is a big birthday for her...and i wish we were all there to help her celebrate!! but, in just about a week, she will be arriving in texas for a belated party. i. can't. wait.

for this extra special, big, birthday...my sister and i have surprised my mom with a trip to the round top antique shows later this month. the 3 of us girls are renting a car, slumber partying it up at a hotel and we are going to shop till we drop. soooo excited to finally go to these shows. visiting marburger farm, zapp hall and the big red barn to name a few. and how fun to finally meet and shop with blogger friends like theresa of garden antqs vintage! AND extra tickled to go visit rachel ashwell's new shabby chic couture shop at her new b&b in round top. my mom has adored rachel for years and this will be such a treat!

we can't wait to dive on in!

vintage tuesday

what's that? it's wednesday? okay...you're right. but i won't tell if you don't. tuesday blew by me like a hurricane. i got caught up in the missoni craze at target in the morning...and well...it went downhill from there;) but i did end up with a few cute pieces of clothes. what can i say. that inner '16 year old - fashion diva -dying to be a fashion designer' came out in me. i'm better today;) okay...so, now that you think i'm crazy....let's get to the post i was supposed to do yesterday!

vintage tuesday.
today, it's all about the makeover. taking your finds from garage sales, flea markets and curbs...and making them your OWN. ugly does not scare me. and seriously...sometimes there is something so ugly it's CUTE! that's how i felt about this $20 garage sale chair i picked up earlier this year. i kinda loved the green color and the funky vinyl rose pattern. but after living with it for some months, it bothered me. i wasn't feelin' it. i think it was more ugly than cute. so i got out my vintage fabric scraps, scissors, glue gun and staple gun and gave it a little makeover. and now...
i love it to bits! here's the before pics...

and AFTER...taaa daaaa.

i had that old burlap sack and really wanted to use it on a chair. still need to get a few wrinkles out...but i also kind of enjoy the imperfection of it. i also used scraps of my beloved bark cloth and then some ticking cotton and old linen dish towels. i just pieced it together...stapled it, then took ripped shreds of old fabric and hot glued them over the seams as piping. yes. hot glue. will it last forever? no. but it's durable enough for now and guess what? i can just rip it off and change it when i start itching for a new change!

and i have to show you my baby louie! what a love. having a puppy is literally like having a toddler running around the house...but we are so in love with him. all the work is worth it:) he is so funny and mischevious and cuddly and loving. such a character.

my parents' house...

hope this wednesday finds you well! we had a great weekend...with some lovely weather! finally dipped below 100 and we had some cool temps in the 70's and 80's! it felt
a m a z i n g!!!!
now if we could only get some rain. the drought continues here in texas and it is so bad. fires everywhere. ugh...just terrible. but anyways...on a happy note...i finally got through some of my vacation pictures. and wanted to share some shots of my parents' house! you will love it. it is like a mexican vacation spot. a really, really nice one. full of bright, happy colors, family heirlooms, religious icons, big bold furniture pieces, mixed patterns, funky art and mexican treasures. when they bought this place there was not a plant in sight...just a couple palm trees. now it's a lush, cozy retreat. you seriously feel like you are in another world when you are there. my mom has such a talent for decorating...it should be her job. and their home should be in a magazine for sure. i haphazardly jumped out of the car and took these shots as we were leaving town and my iPhone pictures do not do it a bit of justice...so forgive the poor quality of some of these. even so...you will be ready to move in! here ya go... i hope all of you in the path of irene are safe and sound. really thinking of you and sending thoughts and prayers!! we have had a sleepy weekend. none of us feeling very great. mostly tired and the boys already having sniffles from school crud. so, it kinda felt good to just watch some movies and play with sweet louie and do a bunch of nothing. that was until this afternoon...when i decided to get some more shop goodies listed...i needed to feel like i accomplished a tiny bit of something:) so here ya go. a new tiny village of lulettes for the fall season. a fun mixed media ornament (if you can bear to think about christmas yet!) that i created from a broken vintage bowling pin top, vintage tin mold, vintage fabric and twine. i named him fred. and a few more snowmen ornies. it's only 109 here today. of course i'm thinking of snowmen:)

vintage tuesday is BACK! i sure missed sharing vintage treats with you guys! so, while i'm getting back into the swing of things from our vacation and back to school modes...it's time to get my vintage shop back on track. i finally added a few new things today and look for more to come on a regular basis now. i didn't plan it this way but all the items have a food theme! well...not so much the score keeper. but it could be used in an eating competition...huh, huh??

goodbye summer

happy, happy monday to you! summer is officially OVER for us this morning. the boys went off to school. 6th grade and 2nd grade. so unbelievable. they are SO grown up, it's not even funny. i made them a special breakfast (hard boiled eggs, waffles and fruit salad was their choice)... packed their new lunch boxes and backpacks...they put on their new school clothes and shoes and went off on their way! they are sitting there right now learning new things. louie is sleeping and the house is sooooo quiet. i'm ready though. ready to get back to work and have a little free time to myself once in awhile! chris' classes start thursday. his second semester of teaching quantum field theory. (what the heck IS that!?) he really loves it.

as a little tribute to the end of summer, i did a new painting. sort of a self portrait. it's me and the boys and louie...but it could be anyone really. chris wanted to know where he was. sorry honey. i painted it in another one of my OLD vintage berry drawers and attached a chippy old red ball to the top where a drawer pull once was long ago. i seriously LOVE painting on the galvanized metal...and love the old wood that frames it. makes for a pretty cool little piece of art to hang in your favorite room, don't you think!?

and a couple pics of the boys. henry lost his front tooth last night! the night before 2nd grade! so cool. and guess what? the tooth fairy left a teeny tiny note and a couple EXTRA bucks for a great 1st day of school. wow, huh!? he was over the moon proud. i'm secretly sobbing on the inside because he totally looks like a BIG kid now. but still so cute:) and here they are off to school this morning.

lou and little lou

we are on the countdown. 6 more days until school starts! we are trying to soak up every last minute of it too. the most fun? louie. what a sweet pea. so tiny and funny and full of spunk. he is a riot. but the poor, sweet pea guy got a little bug and had to be put on antibiotics. scared us so much. but he is doing really well. hasn't slowed him down at all. he plays so hard and then passes right out. it's been quite a few years since we've trained a puppy....and it is a challenge of course. but...potty training is coming along and sleeping at night is getting better. last night he slept from 12 - 5:30! thank you lou! yawn.

now onto the other "lou" in my life. mr. henry (little lou).

he turned the big seven while we were on our trip!

home sweet home

we are home! i can't believe it. what a fabulous whirlwind of a trip! driving from texas to south florida, spending time with our sweet friends at the beach, celebrating henry's 7th birthday, seeing cousins and aunts and uncles and grandmas and grandpas, eating TONS of yummy food and laughing a whole, whole bunch. it was simply the best. we are all trying to adjust our tan, tired bodies to regular home life again...soaking up these last days of summer before school starts again. so, while i go in 20 directions at once (make that 21 when you see my little surprise in the last 2 photos!!!) and try to get all our ducks in a row again...enjoy just a few photos from the beach! a little peek (there will be LOTS more) at our fun...

and here's my surprise...a new member of our family that we crazily got just 1 day upon returning home. a tiny puppy dachshund. we named him louie. he is the cutest little darn thing you will ever see! hello louie!!!

I'm writing you from the road! we are headed to florida for a much needed vacation! soooo needed! it's already been fun...lots of laughing on the road. and the kids were so excited to stay in a hotel last night...so cute. you would have thought we were staying at the ritz! (it was so NOT the ritz:)). we will be away for about 3 weeks...so, I won't be around very much. not like I had been around much anyways, right!? but I promise to take lots of pictures and share with you guys!! happy vintage tuesday to you! sure hope you enjoyed your weekend celebrating the 4th. my parents' visit ended over the weekend and we were so sad to see them go. it was such a fun time. the boys just loved every minute of it and they got to spend some special one on one time with pappy. they hung out at the zoo and the botanical gardens and played LOTS of games. we actually all played tons of this. do you guys love that too?

happy tuesday folks!

summer has me thinking about my summers as a little girl. my sister and i would always spend a couple weeks at my nana and pop pop's house. we would run around the flower garden and catch butterflies. pick veggies out of the garden for our dinner salad each night. watch game shows with pop pop. sit with nana while she did her crossword. we always had a special night out of bowling or a movie and dinner out at pizza hut. it was so fun...the best memories and such a simple time. one thing that really sticks out in my little ol' brain is sleeping on the softest sheets. they had been washed a million times and they were so comfy and cozy. specifically i recall their bright orange daisy pattern sheets. i wish i had them today!

vintage sheets are the best. use them as fabric for all your sewing projects, use them on your beds, take them to the park and the beach to lay on, use them for forts and kids' projects...etc...etc!

happy fathers day to all you dads out there! especially to my awesome dad and my wonderful husband!! we have been relaxing at home today, how about you? the most fun part of the day for sure has been our ongoing monopoly game. it is so stinkin' funny. there's a couple sore losers in the bunch...i won't mention any names...but mostly we are all cracking up at each other. so, here's a few shots of the game...

i am so thrilled to share with you this wonderful new book that i am a tiny part of. the artist unique by carmen torbus, published by north light books. i just picked up my copy the other day and i love it! carmen did an amazing job and i am so happy for her! 15 artists share their stories, insights, advice and techniques for inspiration in creating your own creative signature. (i'm dying to try the image transfer onto wax technique!)

i received my 2 pieces back from the publisher and they are now in my shop! here are some peeks at my mixed media piece and a little lulettes house as well as the book! enjoy and again...a big thanks and congrats to carmen!

yes i did already post once today...but i had a spur of the moment idea to go ahead and list this little wall lulettes gal! i'll be heading over to the shop in just a second to get her on there. she has the sweetest little freckles. her name is maggie. she wears a skirt made of vintage fabric and carries a basket full of vintage millinery flowers and an old stamp-turned flag.

summer heat

it is full swing summer here in texas! it is hot. hot. hot!! and it will just get hotter. i'm realizing the importance of having a pool, having a friend with a pool, or belonging to a pool here. we are zero for three on that list and slowly melting. but we do have a hose and the kids have quickly made that their best friend when outside! still dreaming of a nice nestea plunge off the side of a pool though:) ahhhhhh.
